There are several likely reasons why your wallet may appear to be showing the wrong balance.
- Your funds are in a different wallet than the one you are checking.
- You used a BIP39 passphrase and are re-entering it incorrectly, or you did not use a passphrase but you are entering one.
- The recovery phrase used when restoring is for a different wallet than the one you are trying to access.
- The wrong security model was selected when restoring your wallet or logging into Blockstream Jade.
Check a Different Wallet
The Blockstream app can hold multiple wallets on one device. If you initially open a wallet and don't see your funds, you may be viewing the wrong wallet.
Try tapping the Wallet icon in the top-right corner to switch wallets.
Check Archived Accounts
If you're not seeing another wallet there, ensure your wallet isn't archived.
Tap Settings in the bottom navigation bar, tap Archived Accounts, and then tap the three dots on a specific wallet to unarchive it.
Enter the Correct BIP39 Passphrase
If you are using a BIP39 passphrase for your Blockstream app wallet, you must enter the exact passphrase each time to access that wallet. You may have forgotten that you originally set a passphrase, so you won't see your funds if you try to access the wallet without entering it.
Additionally, there is no concept of an "incorrect passphrase". Rather than displaying an error, entering a passphrase with even a slight typo will open an entirely separate wallet.
To find your correct wallet balance:
- Enter the wallet's exact passphrase: Every letter, number, or special character in your passphrase counts.
- Try without a passphrase: Some users mistakenly think they sent funds to a passphrase protected wallet but did not. If you think you accidentally created the wallet without a passphrase, make sure you leave the passphrase field empty when restoring.
Enter the Correct Recovery Phrase
You must enter the exact recovery phrase to restore the wallet that holds your funds. If you enter the wrong 12, 24, or 27 word recovery phrase, you will see a different wallet with the wrong balance (or zero balance).
It’s common for Bitcoin users to have multiple recovery phrases from past wallets. Double-check that you’re using the correct phrase, and try any other backups if you aren’t sure which one is correct.
If you still do not see a balance after ensuring you’ve entered the correct recovery phrase, try restoring the wallet on another device to rule out any problems with the device itself.
It’s possible that you generated your recovery phase with different wallet software (e.g. Electrum), so try restoring on platforms you may have used in the past to see if you are able to view your funds.
If you believe you may have lost your recovery phrase, you unfortunately cannot recover your funds.
Check Your Security Policy
Note: As of May 2025, you cannot enable new 2FA-protected accounts. This functionality is only available to users who had already activated this account type previously.
The Blockstream app uses one of two methods to generate your wallet: Standard Singlesig or 2FA Protected. Depending on your security model during setup, the app will generate a wallet’s private keys differently.
If you created the wallet with one security model but restored it on the other, you will see a different wallet with the wrong balance (or zero balance). For example, creating a 2FA Protected wallet but restoring it on Standard Singlesig will not give you access to your funds, even though your recovery phrase words are the same.
To resolve this issue, be sure to restore your wallet using the same security model you created it with.
Tip: All Blockstream app wallets created before September 2021 (including GreenAddress wallets) use 2FA, so make sure to select this option when restoring. All Blockstream Jade wallets created using Blockstream App before April 2022 use 2FA as well.
Select The Correct Network
The Blockstream app supports Bitcoin mainnet, Liquid Network, Lightning, and testnet. Each network uses separate wallets. If you switch to or restore your wallet on the wrong network, your wallet will appear with the wrong balance (or zero balance).
For example, if you sent funds to the Liquid Network but still have a Bitcoin mainnet wallet selected, you’ll see a different balance.
To fix this issue, you must select the correct network. Before restoring or switching wallets, make sure the app’s network setting matches where you sent the funds.
Keep in mind: You must manually enable testnet in the app prior to creating a testnet wallet. If that setting appears disabled in your app, it’s likely that you didn’t mistakenly send funds to a testnet wallet.
Need More Help?
Remember: your funds are safe. None of these issues mean your funds are permanently lost. Your recovery phrase and/or passphrase still secure your Bitcoin or Liquid assets. These troubleshooting steps simply ensure you’re opening the correct wallet. Once you restore your wallet correctly, your expected balance should appear.
If you have checked each of the possible scenarios above and still believe you are seeing the wrong balance, please try the options below.
Note: For our team to assist further, we will need a screenshot of a funded address shown in your address list. This can be attached to any support ticket.
- Take note of a funded address you believe belongs to your wallet. View your address list and try to find that specific address in your wallet. You can find this by selecting Receive -> More Options (the icon with the three dots in the top-right corner) -> List of Addresses. If you cannot find the address in your wallet, then there is an issue with one of the variables shown above and you will need to correct it.
- Do you suspect Blockstream App is still showing the wrong balance? Singlesig wallet users can restore their recovery phrase to any BIP39 compatible platform (such as Sparrow, make sure to check the BIP39 option) to see if their funds appear in a different app. If the funds don't appear in another app, this confirms there is likely a problem with the way you are trying to access your wallet and not an issue with Blockstream App.
