If you have lost the device that had access to your Blockstream app wallet, you can restore that wallet on a new device as long as you have your recovery phrase.
Note: The Blockstream app is self-custodial. Blockstream support cannot access, reset, or recover your recovery phrase, PIN, two-factor authentication, or funds, and cannot sign transactions for you. Your recovery phrase is the only way to restore this wallet. Keep it private. Anyone who has it can move your bitcoin.
When to Use This Guide
Restoring from your recovery phrase is the right path in any of these cases:
- A lost or stolen device
- A device that is damaged or will not start
- A device that has been reset to factory settings
- An uninstalled Blockstream app
Restore Your Wallet on a New Device
- Download and install the latest version of the Blockstream app from the official source.
- Open the app. During setup, select Restore from backup.
- Enter your 12 or 24 word recovery phrase when prompted.
- Set a new PIN for this device.
Your PIN is set per device, so the PIN from the lost device does not carry over. For the full restore flow, including what to do if your recovery phrase is not accepted, see Restore wallet.
If Your Balance Looks Wrong After Restoring
A restored wallet needs to sync with the network before it shows the full picture. Work through these checks in order:
- Wait for the initial sync to finish. A wallet with a long transaction history can take several minutes.
- Confirm you restored the recovery phrase for the wallet you are looking for. If you keep more than one wallet, each has its own recovery phrase.
- Confirm you are looking at the right account inside the wallet. Bitcoin, Liquid, and Lightning balances are held in separate accounts.
If a specific wallet, transaction, or swap is still missing, see What to do if a wallet, transaction, or swap is not showing. If the total is not what you expect, see Fix issues with unexpected wallet balance.
If the Wallet Used Two-Factor Authentication
If the lost device was also the one running your two-factor authentication method, you may be unable to complete 2FA even after restoring. There is a reset path, and it runs on a waiting period. See Lost access to 2FA method.
Protect Your Wallet Going Forward
Store your recovery phrase offline, in a location separate from your devices. See Back up wallet.
Still Need Help?
The fastest way to reach support is from inside the app, because the report includes your logs. Open the app, go to the Settings tab, tap Support, enter your email and a short description of the issue, keep Share Logs checked, and tap Submit. See Submit log data for troubleshooting.
If you cannot open the app, you can submit a request on the Help Center instead. Include the app version, your device and operating system, and what you see on screen when the restore fails.
Do not include your recovery phrase, PIN, or any 2FA codes. Support will never ask for them.
