Blockstream

What does the Enhanced Privacy setting do?

  • App

Enhanced Privacy is an Android setting in the Blockstream app that hides the app's contents from anything other than the screen in front of you. It turns on secure display across the whole app and adds an optional screen lock that uses your phone's biometrics. The setting is off by default and applies to every wallet in the app.

Secure Display

With Enhanced Privacy off, the app protects only its most sensitive screens: the recovery phrase, login, and PIN screens cannot be captured. Everything else, including balances, addresses, and transaction history, can be screenshotted or recorded like any other app.

With the setting on, that protection covers every screen in the app:

  • Screenshots and screen recordings of the app are blocked.
  • The app's preview is hidden in the Android recent apps switcher.
  • Screen mirroring and casting show a blank screen for the app.
  • Notification details from the app are hidden on your lock screen.

Screen Lock

Turning on Enhanced Privacy reveals a Screen Lock option with two choices:

  • Lock immediately: the app locks as soon as you switch away from it.
  • Lock after 1 minute: the app locks one minute after you switch away.

When you return to a locked app, tap Unlock and confirm with your phone's fingerprint, face, or device screen lock. Screen lock requires biometrics or a device screen lock to be set up in your Android settings; without one, the app does not lock.

Note: Screen lock protects the app while it is open in the background. It is separate from your wallet PIN, which you still enter when you log in to a wallet.

Change the Setting

1.

Tap the Wallet icon in the top-right corner of the app.

2.

Tap the three dots in the top-right corner to open App Settings.

3.

Toggle Enhanced Privacy on. The change is saved immediately.

4.

Under Screen Lock, choose Lock immediately or Lock after 1 minute.

Note: Enhanced Privacy is currently available in the Android app only.
