For the best setup experience, it is recommended to upgrade your firmware before beginning the initialization process. However, you will also be prompted to upgrade your firmware after setup when using Blockstream Green if that is your chosen companion app.
Tip: Users who want to keep their private keys fully air-gapped can upgrade Jade before set up, then create or restore their wallet once on the latest version. Users with already initialized Jades can perform a factory reset to erase their keys from device and subsequently restore their recovery phrase to regain access to their funds.

Note: When using the command line method, technical users will have the option to save a local copy of the firmware version, which they can verify against the source code and upgrade using the file they have reviewed for authenticity.
