QR Scan allows Blockstream Jade to communicate with a compatible companion app solely using QR codes, instead of using USB or Bluetooth - allowing for fully air-gapped transactions. This is accomplished by using the cameras and displays on both Jade and your companion device to scan and show QR codes. The following guide will cover key topics that should be understood in order to utilize this feature. Note: QR Scan is available in Jade firmware version 0.1.41 and later. Upgrade your Jade here or using Blockstream Green. Initial Setup Follow the steps below to get set up for performing fully air-gapped transactions with Jade. Each of these steps only needs to be completed once. 1. Download a QR compatible wallet app: QR Scan is supported by several wallet platforms on both mobile and desktop. In general, using a companion device with a large screen and a high quality camera will lead to the best scanning experience. 2. Access QR Mode: Initialize or unlock a wallet stored on Jade using your PIN and QR codes, or temporarily load a wallet to Jade using SeedQR. 3. Add your wallet: Visit Xpub Export in your Jade's settings then scan your xpub QR in order to add a wallet to your compatible platform. Using QR Scan The steps below will allow you to receive and send bitcoin using Blockstream Jade - without needing a USB or Bluetooth connection. 1. Verify receive addresses: Use the Scan function on Jade to verify your receive addresses. This is used for scanning your own addresses before sending funds to your wallet. 2. Send transactions: Create your transaction on your companion app and choose to sign via QR codes. Use Jade's Scan function to read the QR codes to import the data onto your device. Continue signing the transaction as you normally would by confirming the details, then Jade will display the signed response back for your app in the form of QR codes.
