Blockstream Jade is capable of communicating with a companion app solely using QR codes, which requires scanning PSBTs with the cameras from both Jade and your desktop or mobile phone. Below are several tips that can improve the scanning performance, speed, and reliability using each device. In general, the best experience will come from: Using a companion device with a large screen and a high quality camera, such as those found on mobile phones. Sending transactions with as few inputs and outputs as possible to minimize the number of QR code frames that need to be scanned by each device. Use coin control on your companion app to select larger coins if necessary, instead of combining many small ones together. Improving your lightning conditions until your cameras are scanning QR codes easier, which usually comes from minimizing shadows, reflections, and glare. Tip: Need help scanning a SeedQR? The progress bar on the Scan QR screen will fill up as new QR frames are successfully scanned - use this to find the optimal angle and distance at which to place Jade. If new frames are not being captured, move Jade until you notice a quicker scan and hold that position. Typically, beginning with the QR filling the frame then moving Jade further away will help you find the right distance. 2. Adjust your companion app's theme to "light" mode. "Dark" mode places the QR against a dark background, which increases the camera's sensitivity and leads to poor scanning performance. Scanning QRs from Jade's Screen 1. When a signed PSBT is displayed during the transaction flow, select Options. This will allow you to change the density and frame rate of all QRs displayed on your device. Adjust these options until you notice one that your companion device is reading the best. Tip: A "low" density and frame rate will be more easily read by your companion device, however this will lead to longer scan times. A "high" density and frame will allow for very fast scanning, although this will require a higher quality camera to capture (such as those found on many mobile phones). 2. Navigate to Power Settings in the Jade Options menu and turn down your screen brightness, which can greatly improve scanning. 3. Close and reopen your companion device's camera as the focus may need to be reset.
