Liquid Bitcoins are transferred to the Liquid sidechain from the Bitcoin mainchain through a process known as a peg-in (also known as bridging). Most users will prefer to acquire their L-BTC from a third party that handles the peg-ins or swaps for them, but you can also perform peg-ins yourself using a Liquid node.
Warning: Do not acquire L-BTC without having a way to convert back to BTC. L-BTC peg-outs can only be performed via a Liquid member, but there are many options available.
