Satoshis (sats)

The smallest denomination of Bitcoin, named after its pseudonymous creator(s), Satoshi Nakamoto. One sat represents 1/100,000,000 (one hundred-millionth) of a bitcoin or 0.00000001 BTC.

Bitcoin's divisibility down to one hundred-millionth of a bitcoin makes it suitable for micropayments, and denominating amounts in sats keeps these small transactions easy to express, which is especially useful when sending or receiving via the Lightning Network.

Dictionary-style entry defining stacking sats as the art of accumulating small amounts of bitcoin through buying, earning, or mining, beside a stack of bitcoin coins
