BIP39 passphrases are an optional, advanced feature that provide some additional security to your wallet. They are not stored on Jade, but instead are used to temporarily access a separate wallet by entering your passphrase during login. Keep in mind that using a passphrase also has some tradeoffs, so make sure you understand the implications of using one before you send any funds to a passphrase-protected wallet. Warning: Make sure to keep your passphrase backed up and protected. If you lose it, you will not be able to access your wallet even if you have your recovery phrase. Set up a Passphrase If you have already set up your Jade, you will need to reset your device then restore your wallet or create a new one. The process below is for firmware version 0.1.30 or greater. 1. Begin the setup process on your Jade, then choose to create a New wallet or Recover using an existing recovery phrase. 2. Select Advanced and continue to record your new recovery phrase, or restore a previous one. 3. Choose to protect your wallet with a passphrase when prompted, then enter your desired passphrase. Note: Different passphrases lead to different wallets, so don't lose yours! Upon each login, you will need to enter it exactly as you did when previously using your wallet. Keep in mind, there is no "incorrect" passphrase. Your Jade with a passphrase of "abc" will lead to a different wallet than your Jade with a passphrase of "abcd". Spaces count too! 4. Confirm your passphrase then continue through the setup process. 5. The next time you log in, make sure to enter the same passphrase in order to access the same wallet. Tip: It is recommended to send a small "test" amount of bitcoin to your wallet after enabling this feature, then log out and log back into Jade with your passphrase. This will ensure that you have your passphrase backup written down correctly. Remember, a single typo in your backup can lead to the loss of all funds in this passphrase protected wallet.
