# What is exporting a child key from Jade?

When you set up swaps on Jade, the Blockstream app requests a child key from your Jade. This child key is a limited credential that lets the app recover your funds if a swap fails to complete. In normal swap operation, your funds remain fully controlled by Jade from start to finish; the child key is only used if a swap does not settle as expected.

## What the Child Key Is Not

The child key is not your recovery phrase. It does not give the Blockstream app, or anyone who obtains it, the ability to:

- Derive or recover your recovery phrase
- Move funds held on your main wallet accounts
- Sign Jade transactions outside of a failed-swap refund
- Access funds once a swap has settled (settled funds remain fully controlled by Jade)

Your recovery phrase stays on Jade. **Jade's unique security model ensures that there is nothing of value to steal from a locked Jade by itself.**

## Only Export When the Official Blockstream App Requests It

> **Warning:** Only export a child key when prompted by the official Blockstream app. If any other app, website, or QR code asks Jade to export a child key, decline and disconnect. If a malicious actor obtains your child key, they can only claim funds from swaps that fail to settle; completed swaps remain fully controlled by Jade.

Download the Blockstream app only from [blockstream.com/app](https://blockstream.com/app), the Apple App Store, or Google Play. Verify the publisher is "Blockstream Corp Inc." before connecting Jade.
